The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families.
A crucial element of the charity’s strategy is to provide a wide range of free and widely available pro-active resources to support the industry.
The charity offers a free and confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline and text HARDHAT service which provides a range of information, guidance and support on a huge variety of wellbeing issues. These services are complemented by their free Self Support App which offers another route to support, along with their Lighthouse Beacons who provide a safe space for people to share concerns.
The Lighthouse Charity’s Wellbeing Academy offers a variety of free soft skills and leadership training delivered across a variety of platforms to suit every learning style from self paced e-learning, tutor led online masterclasses and seminars, through to bespoke onsite training.

New Category at the Irish Construction Excellence Awards (ICE Awards)
In recognition of the huge impact consulting engineers in Ireland play in the development of our built environment The Irish Construction Excellence Awards introduced a dedicated category for Engineers to showcase their expertise.
This category is open to Engineering Designers and firms that demonstrate excellence in the design of a project in the areas of Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Fire, Sustainability and Environmental engineering.
The project design can be for a new build or a substantial addition to an existing build where the project has been completed from January 2022 to the end of December 2023. This category has been designed by engineers for engineers, and the questions are set by members of the expert panel of judges.

Association of Consulting Engineers (ACEI) Munster Roadshow Drives Smart Sustainable Growth in the Industry
Cork, Ireland — September 20th — The Association of Consulting Engineers (ACEI) hosted a Munster Roadshow event focused on “Driving Smart Sustainable Growth” in the consulting engineering industry. The event took place at the Rochestown Park Hotel in Cork, bringing together both ACEI members and non-members from the region.
The roadshow in partnership with Griffiths & Armour commenced with a warm welcome from ACEI’s President, James Kavanagh, who expressed his enthusiasm for the event’s theme and its potential to inspire positive change within the industry. The event aimed to provide a platform for experts to discuss solutions to Ireland’s housing, infrastructure, and climate crises.
Guest speakers hailing from various sectors related to consulting engineering shared their insights and experiences, emphasising the significance of integrating sustainability and intelligence into the industry’s practices. The event facilitated a dynamic exchange of ideas, enabling participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the latest trends and opportunities in driving growth that is both smart and sustainable.
Highlighting the collaborative nature of the event, a panel discussion was held, bringing together experts from different corners of the consulting engineering field. The panel delved deep into the intricacies of achieving smart sustainable growth in the industry, discussing challenges, breakthroughs, and best practices. The insightful discussions ignited fresh perspectives and inspired attendees to envision a future where innovation and environmental responsibility coexist harmoniously.
The ACEI event not only provided knowledge sharing but also aimed to shape actionable outcomes in alignment with the Association’s strategic plan. Attendees actively engaged in dialogues that aimed to identify key focus areas and set measurable targets, ensuring a roadmap for the industry’s advancement in the years to come.
President James Kavanagh stated, “Our industry stands at the intersection of innovation and sustainability in the construction industry. If Ireland is to meet the housing, climate, and infrastructure crises it faces, it will require a thriving consulting engineering sector operating efficiently. Minister Donohoe has launched Prospectus 2023/2024, Ireland’s Major Infrastructure Project Pipeline.
The report sets out a clear pipeline for 50 of the largest individual projects that make up Project Ireland 2040. This pipeline spans projects which are currently at planning and appraisal to projects which are completing construction this year.

ACEI members will lead the development of a digitalised and sustainable construction industry. By 2030, ACEI members will have shaped a construction industry regarded as exemplary in smart, sustainable growth whilst delivering the NDP, Project Ireland 2040, large aspects of the Climate Action Plan and Housing for All. In doing so, our members will help deliver the infrastructure and housing of a thriving Net Zero economy and society.

ACEI members please note that FIDIC has made a number of its industry best practice documents available for free download from its website. The documents, produced by FIDIC’s nine expert working committees, are sure to be useful to professionals working across the engineering, construction and infrastructure sector to support the promotion of global best practices in the industry.
