ACEI is pleased to congratulate Executive Member and Vice President,  David McHugh on being appointed President of the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management.  

The UK-headquartered CIWEM is the leading chartered professional body dedicated to sustainable management of the environment globally.  

CIWEM has for many years been recognised as an authoritative voice on water and environmental issues. With a heritage stretching back into the 19th century, the institution has played a key role in the careers of those leading advances in water supply, sanitation and treatment, public health and environmental challenges.  Today, CIWEM represents and supports a community of 10,000 members in over 90 countries and is dedicated to sustainable management of the environment, globally.

David says he welcomes the challenges ahead as the 33rd CIWEM President.  His Presidential theme is the climate and ecological emergency and he will focus on mobilizing the technical community to take action on the climate crisis and become effective change agents.


David is the Director responsible for the Energy and Planning Department at Fehily Timoney (FT) and is also responsible for operations across the company. David’s technical expertise is in the disciplines of civil and environmental engineering, specifically renewable energy, sustainability and water services. He leads FT’s work in the renewable energy sector, including onshore wind, offshore wind and solar projects and is Project Director responsible for projects at various stages of development, from inception to planning and permitting, through to construction.
