Course Delivery

This is a virtual classroom in which participants will require access to a webcam and microphone for live sessions with the trainers throughout the day. Participants will receive a login code via email. The course will be delivered between 9:30 and 17:00 with running order and break times outlined in advance.

As with the traditional classroom delivery of our courses, class sizes are limited to allow opportunity for all delegates to participate.

Who should attend?

Chartered Engineers and permanent works designers. It is required that participants should have completed the ACEI / Engineers Ireland “Designing for Safety in Construction” (DSC) course.

Programme

Topics covered during the course will include:

  • Overview/ General Application of the 2006 Regulations; Accidents in Construction and Maintenance.
  • Duties of the Client; When is a PSDP appointed; Duties of Project Supervisor Design Process.
  • PSDP & Designer Interface; Asbestos; Anchor Code of Practice; Underground Services Code of Practice.
  • Designers Role – A PSDP’s Perspective; Designer’s Assessment of Safety; Co-ordination of designers and organising co-operation between designers.
  • Getting Agreement on Practical Solutions; Preparation of Preliminary Safety & Health Plan.
  • The PSDP Role during Construction Stage; The Safety File.
  • The course will include an open book exam.

We are committed to providing delegates with the most relevant and up-to-date information. Therefore, the content of our CPD courses is continuously revised and updated periodically by our trainers.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the module, a participant will be able to:

  • Assess his/her own competence to take on the role of PSDP in the case of a project of a particular size and complexity.
  • Advise clients (in particular inexperienced clients) of their statutory duties.
  • Demonstrate competence to act as PSDP to a potential client.

Trainer/Course Designer Profiles

The course trainers are all practicing chartered engineers working in consulting engineering design companies experienced in the role of PSDP.

TU Dublin Masters of Engineering in Sustainable Infrastructure

After successful completion of the course, if participants submit a project assignment and undertake an interview, they will be assessed by Tu Dublin and can attain 5 ECTS credits equivalent to one module on the TU Dublin Masters of Engineering in Sustainable Infrastructure.  Further information from Dr Niall Holmes: niall.holmes@dit.ie

 

Terms And Conditions

Confirmation is subject to event fee being finalised. Cancellation fees calculated at 50% of the estimated total bill will be charged for confirmed bookings cancelled less than 5 working days prior to the date of the planned event. A replacement person is welcome to attend. Please inform the CPD team of any changes and be aware that rate differences apply to members and non-members. Cancellations made the day prior to an event will be charged 75% of the total estimated bill. No-shows will be charged the full fee. All cancellations must be confirmed in writing by email. ACEI will not be liable for any costs in the event of a course being re-scheduled. This applies, but is not limited, to any travelling, subsistence or consequential expenses incurred by delegates. Access to course material is for participants only. No recordings of the course should be made by participants. ACEI and respective trainers or third party providers will use your personal data for purposes of the training course.
