The winning project in this category demonstrates excellence through its pioneering achievement in sustainability and innovation. The project aimed to push design boundaries with a specific focus on innovative structural solutions to reduce Embodied Carbon. 

The Treasury Building, originally Boland’s Bakery, was acquired by Google Ireland in 2019. CORA Consulting Engineers were the designers on an ambitious renovation and extension to accommodate 1,100 people over nine stories. The project has achieved an Embodied Carbon figure of 207kgCO2e/m², far surpassing the target of 500kgCO2e/m² set for the International Living Futures Institute registration. 

J V Tierney and Co. Ltd for the Polaris Building

The winning project in this category is an example of the use of advanced mechanical, electrical, and sustainable design technologies to deliver an energy-efficient future facing building.

In the design of the Polaris Building in Dublin City University’s Glasnevin Campus, J V Tierney and Co. Ltd. have achieved a highly efficient, low-carbon building that aligns with DCU’s sustainability goals. This large fully electrified and decarbonised facility, which has eliminated fossil fuel usage, achieved a BREEAM Excellent Certification for its design and shows a strong commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.
