ACEI Course

 

Mr Michael Garrick has been elected President of the Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI) for the term 2013/2014.

Michael is a Director of TOBIN Consulting Engineers and is a Civil Engineer, and Hydrologist, with 35 years postgraduate experience. He has experience in major Water Supply, Main Drainage, Waste Water Treatment, and Electricity Transmission Projects. He has delivered specialist hydrological work related to Water Resources Management under the 1942 Water Supplies Act and under the Liffey Reservoirs Act, for water resources projects in Fingal, Kildare, Louth, Galway and Mayo. He is guest External Lecturer in Hydraulics on the BE Degree at NUI Galway.

Michael has been a member of the ACEI Executive Board for the past four years. During his term on the Board Michael has represented ACEI on the Internal Market Committee (IMC) of EFCA, the European Federation of Consulting Engineers.

In his year as President, Michael aims to devote his skills and experience to firstly addressing the many challenges facing the member of the Association in the current difficult economic climate and secondly to raise awareness amongst policy makers of the importance of sustaining the strong contribution to the economy of Irish Consulting Engineering. A healthy and competitive Consulting Engineering industry is ultimately an investment in the quality of life of our people.

The Association of Consulting Engineers of Ireland (ACEI) – established in 1938 - is a voluntary self-regulatory professional body representing the business and professional interests of firms and individuals engaged in Consulting Engineering.

As the voice of the Consulting Engineering profession, it assists in resolving issues of importance for clients and Consultants alike and contributes to the development of relevant public policy through involvement in Working Groups, Government Committees, and the development of model Conditions of Engagement, and policy papers, etc.

International Affiliations
The ACEI is a member of:

  • EFCA (The European Federation of Consulting Engineering Associations) which represents the professional and commercial interests of engineering consultancy in Brussels and throughout Europe;
  • FIDIC which represents engineering consultancy worldwide, particularly with lending agencies such as World Bank. FIDIC publishes a range of conditions of contract suitable for international use;
